Happy New Year! As we welcome in 2024 this is the time not only to reflect on the past year, but also make resolutions and set goals for the new year. This is a great time to set personal goals for yourself, as resolutions for the new year is such a well-recognized practice. Everyone is making plans, which creates a great mutual support network. Of course it is also well-recognized that many resolutions fail, however it does not have to be that way. Here are some things to consider if you’re going to make resolutions and want them to be successful.

Before planning a fresh chapter, it’s helpful to pause and look back over the milestones and hurdles of the past year. Give a shout-out to your victories, no matter how small or modest they might seem. Then identify concrete areas where positive changes can be made. This helps to craft resolutions that are relevant and within reach.

Set Wanted and Realistic Resolutions

Often when people set resolutions, they think about what they should do instead of what they want to do, or they think about what they should stop doing, rather than what they actually want to achieve. To be successful, it helps if the goal is something that you really want to happen, not just what you think you should be going for.

It can also be easy to get caught up in setting lofty goals that sound good, but then when you don’t achieve them, it is so discouraging and deflating. Instead of abandoning overly ambitious resolutions, ensure that they are attainable, and have a real plan behind them.
